What I don't like about today's cartoons.
The girls watch nick jr cartoons and well, they suck. And I just realized why. They all have 'messages' in them. Remember OUR cartoons? It was mindless! Cats chasing mice. Dogs chasing cats. (I loved Tom and Jerry). But today, the cartoons have to be ABOUT something. Blah.

Coyotes chasing road runners! Those were the times!
I loved our cartoons!
We only watch PBS Kids. Andrew is a big "Super Why" fan . . . great show; arguably THE best educational programming on t.v. I love it (I love it so much that I e-mailed PBS and told them, and I asked them to make more episodes).
Which is part of the reason we no longer have cable and have bought Looney Tunes on DVD, as well as Animaniacs (which I've actually discovered is educaitonal...) and plan on buying the "evil" Sesame Street.
:)
Agreed! New cartoons suck. We invested in "old school" cartoon DVDs such as Looney Tunes, Daffy Duck, and the Dinosaurs (one of my favorites!!!)
I want my kids to enjoy cartoons like I used to. I didn't have to learn on Saturday mornings!! I just ate cereal and laughed!
I agree! I watch Saturday morning cartoons for the first time recently and was horrified by what I saw.
When I watched cartoons, all I learned was that Coyote should never trust Acme products and once you solved a mystery you got a Scooby snack.
Cartoons were much more violent when I was a kid though. It's hard to reinforce the "no hitting" rule, when Jerry is whacking Tom with a board. But, we still watch the old school stuff on YouTube!
The other thing I noticed recently: We have a Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? book from the 70's and one from 2006. In the 70's version, it's all "Mr. Brown can go Moo, Mr. Brown can go buzz buzz." In the 2006 version, it's "Mr. Brown can SAY Moo, Mr. Brown can SAY buzz buzz." Grammar for the preschooler...
I love Sponge Bob Square pants though!
Cartoons also used to be beautifully drawn. There is something very sterile about the way cartoons look now.
try Phinneas and Ferb on Disney. It's really very good. No "message," and it's funny. I have no idea what it's doing between the other crap on that station, but check it out.
it's why i love spongebob. There is no point or moral.
We like old stuff--Tubby The Tuba ftw.
I bought the boys Tom and Jerry. They LOVE it. I was looking at the box yesterday and it said something about the DVD being for collectors and was not suitable for children!! SERIOUSLY!!!!
