I got my end of year statement at daycare and was told I won the award for the person who spent the MOST at daycare!
$16,000 (and some change).
gulp. Excuse me while I throw up.
See, our daycare is for hospital and city employees. They get a HUGE discount. They opened their doors for a short time frame to general public and I got in. 2 year wait list now. So good thing, eh?
Anywho, I don't get the discount. There are families there with more than 2 in full time care. (I only have them in for 8 hrs/day). There are families with children in class longer than my own (you pay hourly).
So being public pay AND having two kids AND having them in for 8 hours/day (they have morning time and breakfast with me. I drop them off at 9am and then hubby picks them up at 5pm) makes ME the WINNER of the MOST paid.
$16,000. Holy shit.

Congratulations?!? - or - HOLY SHIT WOMAN!?!?!
(you pick your favorite)
Ummm...I'm thinking condolences are more appropriate than congratulations on this award. But I guess that's the price you pay for a good daycare!
Damn, and I thought the 21.99 I paid for HPT's this week was expensive ;-) Totally just kidding on that one, but yeah 16,000 does add some sticker shock to "those" who say they can't afford silly shit while TTC (NOT including IF stuff, obviously because thats a bitch)
Holy shit is right. Is it wrong to say damn, shit, bitch, and shit (in that order) on a mommy blog? hahah
Don't worry. You can curse. My kids can't read. :)
beth - I pick "holy shit".
Good Hell, that's more than I brought home annually over 5 years ago.
I hope you have flex plan and get the Tax break.
(Hummm, I wonder if HPT's are covered under flex) j/k.
I agree it should be condolences rather than an award lol,I mean what kind of award says, "hey guess whos paying the most money...YOU ARE" lol, im sure its totally worth it though it seems like they are learning a lot and doing very well I hope to find a daycare/pre school that good when I go back to school.
Phew, what a total! But I know its not cheap. My employer sponsored daycare runs $1,498 per month for 1 infant. That's right...over 17K for one kid.
Jen - yup. I know I'm not in the most expensive daycare. Nor in the most expensive city. Many, many, many people pay more than myself. It was just a shocker that I was #1 in ~my~ daycare.
Everyone's right - HOLY SHIT! I don't even say "curse" words normally but nothing else seems appropriate. I can definitely appreciate paying nothing for daycare. . . well, I do supply the diapers, wipes & food for my MIL but still. . . that's not $16,000!!!!!!!! Holy mother of God!
So Nancy, just curious...what is the cost per child? Since Alli is 2 and Ella is what..3? (Sorry I can't remember.) Do you pay per week?
My daughter is 2 and I pay $155/wk and when she's 3, it goes down to $135/wk. (And I think it's $196/wk from age 0-2.) And this daycare is about $20 more per week than the average in my area.
Oh, and I meant to add, we have to pay for days she's not there (ie: sick days). The only days we don't pay for are holidays that the daycare is actually closed for. So that sucks. But, like you, this was the best place and there was a waiting list and I got lucky.
Allie is $4/hr and Ella is $3.50/hr.
We can set out own scheduled (they are open 24x7) and we pay for when we are there. If we take a day off, we have to schedule it 2 weeks in advance, so we don't pay for anything we can schedule ahead of time. (dr's appts, vacations).
uhmmm, congratulations? :eyeroll: That actually seems like a pretty good deal to me - it's a little more than what we pay for 3 days/week. But really, to know you're paying more than everyone else there sucks.
