Does any mommies of babies use the mesh feeder?
Karl LOVES his. I stuff it with things like cantaloupe, watermelon, banana - really any kind of fruit. He gets DOWN with his, chewing and sucking all of the fruit out of it.
The girls never got into theirs but it's a big hit with Karl. Just thought I'd share in case you wanted to try it!

Thanks Nancy, I'm definitely going to try one because Layla is not doing well with the spoon. She just prefers the boob I guess :)
My son LOVED his. I swear he ate at least a dozen watermelons thru his, we couldnt stuff them in fast enought. He had the Munchkin ones like your picture shows, but they were hard to get clean where the mesh connects. We tossed all of ours after B was thru w/ them. So, for this next babe we are probably going to get these: http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=6356&parentCategoryId=85181&categoryId=85181 (hope that link works)
I have the one step ahead feeder- Caiden LOVES it! Since we're still slowly trying out foods she hasn't gotten much in it- so far it's been frozen peach slices which she can not get enough of! They help with the teething & they're yummy.
They clean pretty easily & came with 2 feeders & 3 bags so you can just pop a new bag in & clean the yucky one.
Boo is not crazy about it. I pull it out every once in a while to try. He did ok with it last time. He gags and coughs anytime he eats anything remotely chunky. I'm not rushing it too much.
My Busy B ate some fruit (fresh and frozen both) through it, but she really preferred ice in hers.
Even though she has outgrown the need for the feeder she still loves ice and will ask for it any time she sees some.
Ruby takes a suck of it and then makes a face and flings it. Too much cleanup, mesh feeder went bye-bye.
Moira loved hers. It was about the only thing that really made her happy when she was teething. Frozen peaches were her favorite. She didn't like the teethign rings or frozen washcloth or anything like that, but some frozen fruit int he mesh dealio, and she was actually smiling and happy instead of grumpy.
Melissa
I used mine a little with Jillian, but mostly she wasn't interested.
I saw one of these at Wal-Mart, or something kind of like it...I think I'm going to try it! How do you put the food in? Just a whole strawberry and it "meshes" it up for them? Neato!
This is good to know!! I was looking at the one step ahead ones. I'll have to pick some up.
I was a bad, bad mommy and just never went that route. I cut things small (like really small) and let my kids finger feed.
Colin LOVES it. Best thing I have for him to try stuff. I like that he can have real fruit to chew and I don't have to worry about choking!
I didn't do mushed food or the mesh feeder--I just started with finger food. I waited until 6 months, and we just started serving him food. We'll do the same with the new little guy. We didn't worry about choking, and we didn't worry about him eating enough because he was still loving the mama milk.
Bananas, broccoli, yams, avocado...all things that don't require any special treatment...and he'd just eat them. He started eating chicken at 7 months.
Ours love them! We started with frozen peach slices to help with teething and have just never moved beyond that because they are such a resounding success. Couldn't believe it.
We did the same as "the mol", straight to regular foods.
I don't have any kids, but I have given these as shower presents. One kid loved it, and the other one hated it. :) Ya just never know.
I forgot these even existed! Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to get two of these for when the boys are ready. They've just been eating cereal for the past two weeks. We'll be moving on to veggies and fruits soon!
